French Bleriot XI. This
aircraft is a reproduction of the 1909 Bleriot XI
and was 3 years in the making, finished in July,
2006. The Bleriot is a first for many achievements
including crossing the English Channel, crossing the
Alps, doing a loop, being used by the military and
carrying the first mail run ever. The Bleriot was
also the first aircraft to use the 3-control system
still used today, although the Wright Brothers-type
wing warping still control the lateral. (picture
July 26, 2006) First flights were made on August
16, 2006. Twelve flights were made with 4 hours TT.
Last flown to McMinnville Museum for display the end
of September. Plans are to fly again next summer
2007.
